About the Project

The Highway 407 East Phase 2 project extends Highway 407 about 22 kilometers from Harmony Road in Oshawa to Highway 35/115 in Clarington and connects Highways 401 and 407 with Highway 418 that serves as a north-south freeway.

The Highway 407 East Phase 2 is a toll road and owned by the Ontario government.

Construction was completed in November 2019, with the highway officially opening on December 9, 2019.

Features

Phase 2 of the project features:

  • An eight kilometre, 4-lane freeway from the Harmony Road to Highway 418
  • A 14 kilometre, 4-lane freeway from Highway 418 to Highway 35/115
  • Interchanges on Highway 407 at Enfield Road, Regional Road 57, Darlington Clarke Town line, and Highway 35/115
  • A new ten kilometre, 4-lane Highway 418 connecting Highway 401 to Highway 407 
  • Interchanges on Highway 418, Highway 401 and Highway 2 and a partial interchange at Taunton Road
  • A supporting maintenance facility

Community And Green Benefits

Highway 407 East will help ease traffic congestion in the Greater Toronto Area and improve the flow of goods, services and people in the region.  

Economic Benefits

Design and construction of the extension and link created thousands of direct and indirect jobs, including about 750 workers at peak construction.
