BURLINGTON - Infrastructure Ontario and Joseph Brant Hospital announced today Integrated Team Solutions (ITS) is the preferred proponent selected to design, build and finance the hospital's redevelopment and expansion project.

The selection of ITS as the preferred bidder is the result of an open, fair and competitive procurement process overseen by a third party fairness advisor. The team includes:

  • EllisDon - Constructor.
  • Fengate Capital Management - Financial Advisor.
  • Parkin/Adamson Architects Limited - Architects in joint venture.

The project will provide the growing community of Burlington with improved access to a larger, modern hospital with more single patient rooms, consistent with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care's design guidelines, to meet the highest standards for infection prevention and control and quality patient of care.

Highlights of the project include:

  • New seven-storey patient care tower.
  • 172 new beds.
  • New Emergency Department.
  • Nine new operating rooms.
  • A post-anaesthetic care unit.
  • New and expanded Cancer Clinic.
  • Expanded ambulatory care programs.
  • Renovated level 2B Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit.
  • Expanded Diagnostic Imaging Services.
  • Expanded medical, surgical and outpatient services.
  • A new main entrance.

Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Joseph Brant Hospital will now begin negotiating contract details with ITS. The project is expected to reach financial close in early 2015, which means that relevant contracts will have been signed and the project's costs finalized. Project costs will be announced publicly following financial close and construction is expected to begin shortly thereafter.

The project is proceeding under IO's Alternative Financing and Procurement model, which transfers the risks associated with designing, constructing, and financing the facility to the private sector.

IO and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care are working with Joseph Brant Hospital to design, build and finance the redevelopment project, which will remain publicly owned, controlled and accountable.
