Request for Qualifications Issued

TORONTO - The Credit Valley Hospital's Phase II Redevelopment Project reached a significant milestone today with the release of a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for project teams to finance and build the new addition and expansion for the hospital.

This is the first step in selecting a project lead for the 270,000 square-foot expansion that will include a four-storey inpatient unit and a two-storey/three-level addition.

Once complete, the state-of-the-art facility will house additional space for complex continuing care, palliative care, surgical oncology, paediatrics, obstetrics, rehabilitation, inpatient and outpatient physiotherapy, mental health START program, outpatient perinatal, labour and delivery, laboratory, endoscopy, and additional operating room and procedure room facilities.

“This marks an important milestone for the Mississauga community,” said Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal David Caplan.

“The project is part of the government's five-year $30 billion plus infrastructure investment plan that represents the biggest investment in health care infrastructure in more than a generation.”

“Our government is committed to upgrading and modernizing health care so patients will have better access to services,” said Minister of Health and Long-Term Care George Smitherman.

“Our communities deserve the very best health care facilities we can offer and it's exciting to be moving forward with this project,” said Peter Fonseca, MPP Mississauga East. “Our government is pleased to bring this reality one step closer.”

“This signifies our commitment to keep growing and evolving to meet the health care needs of the patients and families we serve,” said President and CEO of Credit Valley Hospital Wayne Fyffe.

RFQ submissions will be reviewed to short-list contractors with the construction experience, the qualified personnel and the financial strength to deliver a project of this size and complexity. Short-listed teams will then be invited to respond to a Request for Proposals (RFP) to build and finance the project. The RFP is expected to be released in the summer 2007.

Infrastructure Ontario will work with The Credit Valley Hospital to redevelop the hospital, which will remain publicly owned, publicly controlled and publicly accountable. Infrastructure Ontario is a Crown corporation dedicated to managing some of the province's larger and more complex infrastructure renewal projects-ensuring they are built on time and on budget.

This project is guided by principles outlined in the Province's Building a Better Tomorrow framework, which ensures public ownership of core assets such as hospitals, schools, and water and wastewater facilities. The Credit Valley Hospital Phase II Redevelopment Project is one of many infrastructure projects being upgraded and modernized under ReNew Ontario, the government's five-year, $30-billion plus public infrastructure investment plan.
