Request for Qualifications Issued

TORONTO - Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services released a request for qualifications (RFQ) for companies to submit their qualifications to design, build, finance and maintain OPP facilities in 15 communities located across Ontario.

The project will involve the construction of new detachments, regional command centres and forensic identification units. The OPP Modernization project will provide opportunities for local businesses to participate in the construction of these new facilities and will help to stimulate local economies in each region.

The new facilities, which in many cases will replace facilities that have exceeded their useful life (40-50 years), will feature up-to-date amenities to better support the demands of modern police operations and meet the needs of the community.

RFQ submissions will be reviewed to pre-qualify project teams with the design, construction and facilities management experience, the qualified personnel and the financial strength to deliver a project of this size and complexity. Pre-qualified teams will be invited to respond to a request for proposals (RFP), which is expected to be released in summer 2009.

“Our government is dedicated to building safe, strong communities and investing in modern OPP facilities is part of that commitment,” said Rick Bartolucci, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services are working to build the new facilities, which will remain publicly owned, publicly controlled and publicly accountable. Infrastructure Ontario is a Crown corporation dedicated to managing some of the province's larger and more complex infrastructure renewal projects - ensuring they are built on time and on budget.
