About the Project

The project involved the design and construction of a new academic and extracurricular facility at Seneca College’s King City campus. The expansion has allowed the college to increase the range of programs offered and provide space for an additional 1,450 students

Features

The new 200,000 square foot facility includes:

  • 25 new classrooms;
  • computer labs;
  • specialty labs for training health care practitioners;
  • a library, learning commons, and student study space;
  • a new student centre, which includes a multi-purpose athletic and recreation space featuring a gymnasium, fitness centre; and
  • informal study areas and event spaces partially funded by the Seneca Student Federation and the Student Athletics Association.

Community And Green Benefits

  • The new facility utilizes reclaimed water to lessen the impact on the environment.
  • The new facility targets LEED Gold in the Canada Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) rating system.
  • LEED buildings focus on healthy indoor environments, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and efficient use of energy, water and other resources. 

Economic Benefits

The Seneca College King Campus Expansion project was a significant economic opportunity for local suppliers and contractors. At the peak of construction it is estimated that more than 300 workers were on site daily.
