TORONTO - Signs of Trillium Health Centre's future were unveiled today. Project signs, which highlight key components of the major expansion and redevelopment projects at the hospital's two sites, were uncovered by hospital and government officials. The official sign at Trillium Health Centre - Mississauga was unveiled by the Honourable Harinder S. Takhar, MPP for Mississauga Centre and Ken White, President and Chief Executive Officer of Trillium Health Centre.  Peter Fonseca, MPP for Mississauga East, and Tim Peterson, MPP for Mississauga South, also participated. The Honourable Laurel Broten, MPP for Etobicoke-Lakeshore and White unveiled the sign at Trillium Health Centre - West Toronto.

“This major expansion is crucial for all residents of Mississauga, Peel Region and Southwest Toronto,” said Takhar. “It will allow Trillium Health Centre to continue to play a vital role as a regional centre for quality health care and treatment, and it is very encouraging to see these projects progress.”

“Today's event marks another step toward greater access to quality health care at the Trillium's West Toronto location,” said Broten. “It signifies that the McGuinty government is on the side of families and individuals by improving services and building a health care system for all Ontarians.”

The Request for Proposals for the Trillium Health Centre redevelopment project closed earlier this week.  Construction is expected to begin early in 2007.

“There is great excitement at Trillium Health Centre about the transformation of our facilities.  These projects will allow us to continue to play our key role as one of Ontario's largest community hospitals,” said White.  “We're pleased to be working closely with the Province to deliver these initiatives for the benefit of everyone in the area.”

Trillium Health Centre is proceeding under ReNew Ontario, the government's five-year, $30 billion plus investment plan to upgrade and modernize public infrastructure.  The project will be co-managed by Trillium Health Centre and Infrastructure Ontario, a Crown corporation dedicated to the renewal of the province's hospitals, courthouses and other essential public assets.  Ensuring appropriate public control and ownership, Infrastructure Ontario uses alternative financing and procurement to rebuild vital infrastructure, on time and on budget.

All infrastructure projects are guided by the principles in the government's Building a Better Tomorrow framework, ensuring public ownership of core public assets such as hospitals, schools and water and wastewater infrastructure.
