The new facility's features include:

  • increased capacity of up to 305 inpatient beds and all associated support services
  • expanded outpatient clinics for psychiatry, diagnostic imaging and medical services
  • the McMaster University Department of Psychiatry 
  • a design that supports patient and family-centred care
  • approximately 800,000 square feet of new construction
  • innovative research and academic spaces

Community and Green Benefits

  • Expanded and enhanced services for patients with long-term needs and outpatient/community based programs
  • Services include assessment, treatment and rehabilitation
  • Increase in private and semi-private rooms designed to maximize patients' access to the outdoors

Economic Benefits

  • Labour was drawn largely from Hamilton and the surrounding communities.
  • At the peak of construction, more than 650 workers were on site daily.
