Putting Patients First by Improving Access to Health Care Services in Peel
Ontario is marking a major milestone in the construction of the new Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness, with the topping off of the centre now complete.
Today's topping off ceremony means that the new Brampton facility, which is part of the William Osler Health System, has reached its highest point of construction. This brings the Peel community one step closer to benefiting from the new hospital.
Patients in Peel will benefit from a new state-of-the-art health care facility with:
- Urgent care, day surgery and diagnostic services, including CT, X-ray and ultrasound, laboratory, pharmacy and neurology/cardiac diagnostics
- Mental health and addictions programs
- Women's and children's wellness programs
- Seniors' wellness programs
- Medical/surgical services focusing on chronic disease management
- Preventative care for chronic conditions such as diabetes and asthma.
Construction began in June 2014 with substantial completion expected in fall 2016. At the peak period during construction, approximately 500 workers will be on site daily.
Ontario's long-term infrastructure plan will help connect regions, develop new economic opportunities and improve quality of life for Ontarians by supporting critical infrastructure projects in cities, towns, and rural and remote communities all across the province.
This project is part of the government's plan to build Ontario up. The four-part plan includes investing in people's talents and skills, making the largest investment in public infrastructure in Ontario's history, creating a dynamic, innovative environment where business thrives, and building a secure retirement savings plan.

- Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care have been working together with William Osler Health System to develop the new Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness, which will remain publicly owned and publicly controlled.
- Ontario is making the largest infrastructure investment in Ontario's history - more than $130 billion over ten years, which will support more than 110,000 jobs per year on average.
- A Conference Board of Canada report estimated that Ontario's public infrastructure investment would add more than $1,000 to the average annual income of Ontarians in 2014 and lower the unemployment rate by about one percentage point.
