About the Project: 

  • The Highway 407 East Extension project will be completed in two phases. Phase one extends the highway by about 22 kilometres from Brock Road in Pickering to Harmony Road in Oshawa and connects Highways 407 and 401 with a 10-kilometre link.  The new link is called West Durham Link.
  • Phase two will extend Highway 407 East from Brock Road in Pickering all the way to Highway 35/115.
  • Highway 407 East is owned by the Ontario government.
  • The Highway 407 East Extension will be a toll road.

Project Features of Phase One

  • Six lanes will be constructed from Brock Road to West Durham Link
  • Four lanes will be constructed from the West Durham Link to Harmony Road
  • New lanes will total approximately 148 kilometres, with ten interchanges

Community and Green Benefits

  • Residents will have more efficient access to other areas of the Greater Toronto Area.
  • The link provides an alternative emergency / detour route.

Economic Benefits

  • Design and construction of the extension and link will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
