About the Project:

  • Other than the Ontario Legislative Building, the Whitney Block is the oldest Ontario government office building. 
  • Whitney Block rehabilitation work includes installing energy efficient windows, updating the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system and repairing the façade (e.g., the exterior of the building).
  • The rehabilitation work will be completed in phases and tenants will be relocated, in phases, to temporary workspaces within the building while the work is underway.
  • The rehabilitation project is expected to be complete by 2022.
  • IO is overseeing the procurement process and providing project management oversight for the project on behalf of the province. Brookfield GIS is the Project Management Service Provider.
  • The rehabilitation of the Whitney Block is part of the Queen's Park Reconstruction Project, an initiative which includes the decant and extensive reconstruction of the Macdonald Block Complex.

  • Category B Environmental Assessment: Notice of Completion issued -  May 2016
  • Request for Qualifications: RFQ issued to General Contractors - August 2016
  • Tender:  Tender documents issued to pre-qualified general contractors - December 2016
  • Award: General contractor services contract awarded to Brown Daniels Associates (BDA) - December 2017
  • Construction Start: January 2018
