Position Purpose

The Designer will focus on achieving IO’s purpose, respecting our values and exceeding our corporate objectives. The Designer will adhere to the highest standards of ethics and judgment. The Designer will lead by example to challenge himself/herself to exceed expectations set by the team as expressed in the team slogan: A team of awesome people and high performing professionals who strive to be creative and proactive, earn trust and respect, and achieve excellence. The purpose of the position is to build awareness about and resilience of IO’s brand, to share information about IO projects, and to support IO’s relationships with external partners and clients. This is achieved by storyboarding, filming, producing, and editing video and photographic content that helps to modernize IO’s approach to internal/external communications and marketing through various channels including online, print, and social media.

Key Function and Responsibilities

1. Accountability

  • Strive to exceed expectations set in IO's purpose, values and corporate objectives.
  • Achieve results for Business Strategy and Communications and input in to the quarterly summary of results.
  • Adhere to corporate policies, protocols and directives including those related to conflict of interest, procurement, ethics travel and hospitality.
  • Adhere to policies, protocols and directives including government directives, the IO Communications Policy, the Ministry Communications Protocol and requirements of the Advertising Review Board.
  • Implement procurements, expenses and accountability requirements, based on direction from the Manager and in accordance with the delegations of authority.

 

2. Communications implementation

  • Lead the planning and development of IO's multimedia and video content for use in corporate marketing and communications media, materials and channels, as approved by the Manager.
  • Lead the coordination, scheduling, directing, filming and editing of all corporate marketing and communications related photo and video content to support IO's brand and value proposition.
    • Deliver visual requirements for events including videos and photography.
    • Collaborate with Communications and other internal teams to develop story ideas.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to plan, schedule and produce video interviews.
    • Collaborate with internal communications colleagues to carry out special projects to promote employee engagement using video

3. Video and multimedia development

  • Lead in the expansion of video-based marketing, client testimonial and case study examples to support Loan Program outreach by the lending regional team representatives.
    • Collaborate with external loan clients to produce, review, approve and publish new videos and photos on Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn.
  • Lead the expansion of employee awareness and engagement using video for external and internal audiences
    • Identify and create opportunities for the senior executive team to develop video content for internal communications including the storyboards, video / photo shoots and publication which will result in internal video blogs.
    • Create testimonial videos of summer student program participants as a way to profile successful work placements and examples of student associates transitioning to full time employment at IO.
  • Lead the systematic approach to video development including the best practices for IO.
    • Inform stakeholders about requirements for IO's YouTube and video development, which may include training individuals within IO on proper usage.
    • Organize and post IO's video content to YouTube and other online channels.
    • Ensure videos are compliant with copyright laws, AODA requirements and French language requirements.
  • Develop and maintain an up-to-date inventory of video and photography assets, including:
    • Videos (final cuts, B rolls and working files)
    • Photography (originals and edited content)
    • Equipment (including cameras, mics, tripods, rental requirements); identify and create proposals for new equipment resources for review by Manager.
  • Lead the outsourcing of any required services, including videographers and photographers.
    • Scope of work definition;
    • Procurement;
    • Contracting;
    • Performance measurement by service providers;
    • Quality control of work.
  • Lead, in cooperation with AFP and Real Estate Communications advisors, video production for major project milestone events and announcements.
  • Lead in the tracking of analytics and reporting of YouTube audience penetration, and continue to recommend approaches to maximize value of video outreach.

 

4. Media relations and crisis communications

  • Contribute to the Communication team's efforts to enhance crisis communications capabilities in the organization that improve projects communications.
  • Identify and manage any opportunities to leverage IO's video content in IO's media outreach and communications, and the means to use video as part of media relations and issues management.

 

5. Individual leadership

  • Actively participate in and contribute to the Communications management team.
  • Contribute to a trusted and knowledgeable team of experts that deliver high quality   communications for our organization and clients.

 

6. Coordination with external stakeholders

  • Coordinate procurements and creative design activities with external service providers, as directed by the Manager or Director.
  • Coordinate cooperation on projects with IO clients, ministry or other government experts, such as the cabinet office video production team.

Qualifications

Education and Knowledge

  • Diploma / degree in a Film, TV or Journalism related field with a focus on storytelling, production and editing techniques.
  • Advanced capabilities using Adobe products including: Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator along with other related editing programs such as Final Cut Pro X, various plug-ins and file conversion software.
  • Knowledge of digital photography and the tools needed to capture, manipulate and output imagery.
  • Knowledge of digital media and accessibility best practices are required.

Experience

  • Over 5 Years' experience developing corporate/promotional videos, including story development, production, editing and publishing to YouTube and other social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience working with marketing and communications teams.
  • Demonstrated portfolio of corporate focused video production.

Skills and Personal Attributes

  • Advanced skills in video editing procedures including sound/music, enhancements, graphics, visual effects and animations.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously while producing quality work to tight deadlines.
  • Strong inter-personal skills and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Sound judgment to work with and provide advice to management.
  • Strong work-ethic and an ability to be a team player.
  • Comfortable working within a Windows based environment and proficient in various Microsoft applications including; Word, Power Point, Excel and Outlook.
