Legal Counsel - Leasing (Fixed Term 12 months)

The expertise of the Legal Services division weaves throughout the agency to provide project support and corporate services to the entire organization including lawyers specializing in AFP transactions, commercial transactions, real estate and leasing, lending, privacy, government affairs, litigation, construction, contract management, and internal policies.

 

IO is currently looking to add a Legal Counsel to its collaborative, collegial and high-calibre Leasing legal department.

 

In this Legal Counsel role for the Leasing Department, the successful candidate will be responsible for negotiating and drafting commercial lease and related agreements in the course of providing high-quality legal advice, research, opinions and service to internal clients, including leadership, on commercial leasing matters.

 

The minimum requirements are a degree in law (LLB/JD), membership in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada and a minimum of 3 years of experience practicing commercial leasing. Experience corporate commercial, contracts and procurement would be an asset.

 

To be successful at IO, you will have the ability to present complex concepts in a clear, cogent and intelligible manner by way of both written reports and verbal presentations, control processes and policy compliance, and work effectively in a team-based environment of a growing organization. You will possess strong interpersonal skills, be comfortable dealing with external and internal stakeholders and be effective at managing and organizing a small team. Furthermore, you will possess excellent analytical and research skills, including the ability to research and synthesize regulatory, legal and other relevant information in order to simplify complex financial data or policy initiatives.
