Environmental Specialist (Approx 18 Months)

The Environmental Specialist will provide expertise in the identification and management of environmental concerns, issues, and protect Infrastructure Ontario's and the Province's liability with respect to environmental due diligence and project delivery. The Environmental Specialist will also provide strategic environmental advice as it relates to projects of Infrastructure Ontario's internal and external stakeholders, particularly from a risk-based perspective and facilitate environmental due diligence for all undertakings in the real property portfolio province-wide.

 

The successful candidate will have a Post Secondary Degree or Diploma in engineering, geosciences, or related discipline (P.Eng or P.Geo accreditation considered an asset), knowledge of contaminated sites remediation, procedures in risk assessment and environmentally significant areas analysis, knowledge of environmental assessment and class environmental assessment process, knowledge of Environmental Management Systems (eg. ISO 14001) and auditing, knowledge of government procurement procedures, knowledge of issues, liabilities, negotiations involved in property transaction process, knowledge of environmental, contract and property law, and general knowledge of the real estate industry.

 

You will have training in the identification of environmental risk and risk communication, experience with the implementation and project management of remediation projects and a minimum of 8 years of experience which includes Environmental Assessment - Class EA, Phase I and II ESAs, designated substance surveys, implementing remedial action plans, conducting risk assessment and environmental knowledge transfer.

 

To be successful in this role, you will have excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills to resolve issues and recommend solutions, effective analytical, interpretive, and project management skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Products, project management applications and geospatial solutions.

 

Employment in the Real Estate Division is conditional upon obtaining security clearance through the Program & Policy Enablement Branch, Supply Chain Ontario of the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services.
