About the Project
Infrastructure Ontario (IO) worked with the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries on the design and construction of the Memorial to Honour the Heroes of the War in Afghanistan. The Afghanistan Memorial is an addition to the existing Ontario Veterans’ Memorial located on the Legislative Grounds, Queen’s Park.
From 2001 to 2014, over 40,000 members of the Canadian Armed Forces served in Afghanistan with courage and determination. This memorial will be dedicated to them.
PFS Studio, a leading Canadian planning, urban design and landscape architecture firm, is the designer for the memorial. PFS also designed the Ontario Veterans' Memorial unveiled in 2006.
