STATUS OF MAJOR VENUES FOR THE TORONTO 2015 PAN/PARAPAN AMERICAN GAMES

Infrastructure Ontario has been working with TO2015 and other partners to select companies to develop major infrastructure projects for the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games. This process is well underway and all major venues will be under construction by early 2013.

The Toronto 2015 Games, through contributions from the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario, will deliver Canada's largest ever multi-sport Games. The Games will provide new and redeveloped infrastructure and enhance sporting facilities in post-secondary schools and in communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. During the Games, athletes will have world-class facilities in which to train, compete and rest. Following the Games, students, high-performance athletes and the community will be able to access the facilities. The status of the major venues is as follows:

Pan and Parapan American Games Athletes' Village

Construction of the Athletes' Village in time for the 2015 Games is accelerating development of the West
Don Lands community by five to 10 years and creating much-needed public infrastructure as well as new
market and affordable housing in Toronto.

The project will enhance the broader waterfront community through the development of a new,
sustainable, mixed-use neighbourhood that will provide 10,000 athletes, coaches and team officials with a
safe and supportive environment during the 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games. After the Games the
new community will include:

A new YMCA providing recreational programming for 8,000 residents;
George Brown College's first ever student residence, which will provide housing for 500 students;
787 units of market housing, up to 100 units of which will be reserved for affordable ownership;
253 units of affordable rental housing, representing 24 per cent of the total residential units being
built in time for the Games

Status: Under construction as of January 2012. The Province has entered into an agreement with Dundee Kilmer Developments to design, build and finance the Athletes' Village project.

Aquatics Centre, Field House and Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO)

This high-performance aquatics and athletics facility will be constructed on property jointly owned by the City of Toronto and the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus. The facility will include:

an Aquatics Centre featuring two internationally sanctioned 10-lane, 50-metre pools (including bulkheads); a 5-metre deep diving tank with 5-metre, 7.5-metre and 10-metre platforms; dry-land diver training facilities; and Games-time seating capacity of approximately 6,000;
a field house featuring flexible gymnasium space for training and competition with a Games-time seating capacity of approximately 2,000, as well as an indoor recreational track and fitness area including cardio and weightlifting facilities;
a Canadian Sport Institute Ontario complex that will provide sport performance services and coaching and training facilities.

Students, high-performance athletes, sporting groups and the community will have access to the multipurpose facility after the Games.

Status: Construction will begin in July 2012.

Hamilton Soccer Stadium

Hamilton's Ivor Wynne Stadium will be redeveloped into a state-of-the-art, multi-use sport and entertainment venue with the flexibility to accommodate professional and amateur sports and a range of community, national and international events. The stadium will host football (soccer) competition for the 2015 Games and then become a permanent home for the Hamilton Tiger Cats.

The new stadium will meet all of the technical requirements of both the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) requirements, as well as have:

Expansion capabilities necessary to host future Grey Cup games
Press and broadcasting facilities
Suites, concessions areas
Support space for Games and legacy activities

Status: Construction will begin in late 2012.

Pan American Athletics Stadium

The Pan American Athletics Stadium, located at York University in Toronto, will host athletics competitions during the Games. Following the Games, the stadium will provide students, faculty and the community with a much needed recreation, training and competition facility. Highlights include:

A 5,000 fixed-seat stadium, designed to TO2015, International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) specifications, including:
All the support amenities for the Games
Landscape elements to realize York University's vision for a centre of excellence and match their existing master plan requirements

Status: Construction will begin in late 2012.

Milton Velodrome

The new velodrome will host the track cycling competition during the Games. It will be designed to meet all of the technical requirements of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), including a 250-metre indoor wooden track. The velodrome also includes an infield area that can support other recreational activities such as basketball or volleyball following the Games.

Status: Construction will begin in early 2013.

Markham Pan Am Centre

The new Markham Pan Am Centre will host the water polo, table tennis and badminton competitions for the Games. Following the Games, residents will have access to the 50-metre Olympic-sized pool, triple gymnasium, community all-purpose rooms, meeting rooms and a two-level fitness centre. The new centre will be located adjacent to the Unionville GO Station and the sports-focused Bill Crothers Secondary School in the heart of Markham's newly developing downtown.

Status: The request for proposals has closed and the successful bidder will be announced in summer 2012. Construction will begin in summer 2012.

Etobicoke Olympium

The Etobicoke Olympium will be renovated and be used as a training site for aquatics disciplines including swimming, water polo, diving and synchronized swimming. Renovations of this facility include the existing pool and improvements to the mechanical and electrical systems. The Olympium is a multi-sport facility that includes an Olympic-sized pool, a leisure pool, gymnasium and fitness centre. Following the Games, local residents will have access to much improved facilities.

Status: The request for proposals has closed and the successful bidder will be announced in summer 2012. Construction will begin in 2013.

Pan American Field Hockey Centre

The new Pan Am Field Hockey Centre will be Ontario's first international field hockey venue. This two-field centre at the University of Toronto's downtown St. George campus will have the capacity to host all levels of the game, from international to local.
