Quick Facts:

  • Construction is anticipated to start in 2018, with an estimated in-service date in 2022.
  • The Hurontario LRT project is being delivered using IO's Alternative Financing and Procurement (AFP) delivery model. AFP transfers appropriate project risks to the private sector.
  • Metrolinx has been working closely with the Cities of Mississauga and Brampton to integrate their transit system standards and requirements into the new LRT project.
  • The Hurontario LRT is an example of the Ontario government's commitment to invest in priority rapid transit to create an integrated transit system throughout the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).

Quotes:

“Our government is focused on delivering better rapid transit options to get Ontario moving. We're making progress and it shows with this next step for the Hurontario LRT. It is proof that we are committed to making your daily commute and travel faster and more convenient than ever before.”
Steven Del Duca, Minister of Transportation

“Mississauga and Brampton residents and visitors will be pleased to see work is on track for the Hurontario LRT project. Improving local public transit and travel options and connecting communities are key priorities for our government.”
Bob Chiarelli, Minister of Infrastructure

“With the announcement of these three teams shortlisted for the Hurontario LRT, we are another step closer to greatly improving transit in Peel Region. This project will be a key part of our regional transportation network, providing residents and businesses in Mississauga and Brampton with a fast, reliable, and convenient way to get where they need to be.”
John Jensen, President and CEO, Metrolinx

“IO's AFP procurement model bridges the gap between public and private sectors to get moving on delivering transit projects. With teams now in place to start preparing their proposals for the Hurontario LRT, we are getting closer to launching another transit project in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.”
Ehren Cory, President and CEO, Infrastructure Ontario
