A sign was unveiled today at Kingston General Hospital, revealing the future of healthcare improvements in the community. 

The project sign, highlighting key components of the major renovation and expansion project, was unveiled by David Caplan, Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal and Joe de Mora, President and CEO, Kingston General Hospital. John Gerretsen, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and Kingston and the Islands MPP and Linda Ann Daly, Chair, Board of Directors, Kingston General Hospital also participated.  

“This redevelopment project is crucial for residents of Kingston and those in southeastern Ontario,” said Caplan. “By improving health care infrastructure, we are putting the foundation in place for modern service delivery in our hospitals - demonstrating the McGuinty government's commitment to families and individuals.”  

“New hospitals, new cancer treatment centres and hospital modernization projects, such as Kingston General Hospital, will help to meet increasing demands in our community,” said MPP Gerretsen. “It will dramatically improve the delivery of health care services to area residents, contributing to a quality of life that is second to none.” 

“This redevelopment project is great news for our staff who consistently delivers high quality health care to our community,” said de Mora. “The province's leadership to move forward with this project helping to create an advanced, accessible and effective health care system will meet the changing needs of our community for years to come.”  

Kingston General Hospital's redevelopment includes: 

  • an expanded and renovated Cancer Centre
  • new inpatient units for Acute Mental Health, Paediatrics and medical-surgical patients
  • a new in-centre Renal Dialysis Unit 
  • an expanded Intensive Care Unit 
  • an expanded area for Central Processing Services 

Infrastructure Ontario will work with Kingston General Hospital to redevelop the hospital which will remain publicly owned, publicly controlled and publicly accountable. Infrastructure Ontario is a Crown corporation dedicated to managing some of the Province's larger and more complex infrastructure renewal projects - ensuring they are built on time and on budget. 

>This project is guided by principles outlined in the Province's Building a Better Tomorrow framework, which ensures public ownership of core assets such as hospitals, schools, and water and wastewater facilities. The Kingston General Hospital project is one of many infrastructure projects being upgraded and modernized under ReNew Ontario, the government's five-year, $30-billion plus public infrastructure investment plan.
