Features

  • This new facility was part of the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services strategy to address health and safety issues and inefficiencies of design, technology and space by replacing older facilities.

Community And Green Benefits

  • The facility achieved the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver certification.  
  • LEED® buildings focus on healthy indoor environments, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and efficient use of energy, water and other resources.  
  • Highlights include:
    • More than 75 per cent of site construction waste was diverted from landfill
    • Low-emitting volatile organic compound materials were used for adhesives, paints, carpet and sealants
    • Landscaping with native, drought-resistant species reduce outdoor water use by 50 per cent or more
    • Reduced indoor water use by more than 20 per cent
    • Space for secure bicycle storage, shower facilities for staff
    • Minimizing solar heat gain through a PVC roof to reduce the heat island effect

Economic Benefits

  • At the peak of construction more than 150 workers were on site. Labour and materials for the project were drawn largely from Windsor and the surrounding communities.
  • Forum Social Infrastructure plans for partnering with local companies were negotiated into the project agreement. Local prime team members include J.M.R. Electric Ltd. and Johnson Controls Inc.
