Newly completed West Lincoln Memorial Hospital opens its doors
The new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital (WLMH) in Grimsby celebrated its grand opening on Friday, November 14, and officially began providing care to the public on Monday, November 24. As part of Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS), WLMH connects patients to one of Canada’s largest health care systems, offering access to specialized services. The modern facility is designed to meet the region’s growing needs while supporting staff and physicians in delivering high-quality care.
A P3 Success Story
The Ontario government continues to invest in small hospitals and community health facilities across the province as part of its multi-year health infrastructure plan. The WLMH project is a success story for the P3 model: the project was delivered on budget, and schedule risks were carried by the consortium, not the taxpayer. It is a compelling demonstration of the value the P3 approach can deliver.
Redevelopment Highlights
The redevelopment project involved building a larger hospital behind the existing facility, consistent with the Ministry of Health’s high standards for patient and family-centered care. It incorporates senior-friendly design, accessibility, and infection prevention and control.
The new hospital features:
- Acute inpatient beds
- A 24-hour emergency department
- Maternal and newborn services
- Day surgical services including endoscopy and minor procedures
- Increased outpatient (ambulatory) care space to expand availability of consultation services closer to home; and
- Advanced diagnostics including x-ray, mammography, echocardiology and ultrasound, and CT scanner
