Safety on Site: The New Grandview Kids
Recognizing trade partners and their safety contributions during construction of the New Grandview Kids
On August 30, 2023, Children First Consortium (CFC) hosted a safety event for key stakeholders constructing the New Grandview Kids. This event recognized the impeccable safety record accomplished by workers on-site and showed appreciation to the project’s trade partners Staff from CFC, Grandview Kids and Infrastructure Ontario, and trade partners attended the event.
Construction began on the New Grandview Kids project on April 22, 2022 and there are an average of 60 workers on-site daily. Highlights of the project’s safety record include:
- 300 equipment inspections conducted;
- No injuries resulting in modified duties or work; and
- No lost time injury.
With 98 per cent of the substructure, and 62 per cent of the superstructure completed, the safety record is something of which all partners are proud.
At Infrastructure Ontario, the importance of safety is emphasized on all projects – for everyone involved in the process. The projects we work on are made possible by the involvement of many partners, but could not be implemented without the efforts of the workers and tradespeople. It is important to ensure that all the workers are provided a safe space to work; this includes fostering a safety mindset and implementing practices that prevent accidents and injuries, protect workers’ health, and focusing on the well-being of all individuals involved in construction projects.
