The Requests for Proposals (RFP) stage has closed for teams submitting bids for the Advance Tunnel Contract package for the Yonge North Subway Extension. The twin 6.3-kilometre tunnels will run from Finch Station on TTC Line 1 to south of Langstaff Road in Markham, where the extension will shift to a surface-level segment.

Following a fair, open and transparent Request for Qualifications process, three teams were shortlisted and invited to respond to an RFP in December 2023. The following two teams submitted proposals:

North End Connectors

  • Applicant Leads: Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc., Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas Canada Ltd., Ghella Canada Ltd.
  • Construction Prime Team Members: Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc., Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas Canada Ltd., Ghella Canada Ltd.
  • Design Prime Team Members: EXP Services Inc., TYPSA Inc.

Toronto-York Tunnel Connectors

  • Applicant Leads: Acciona Infrastructure Canada Inc., Green Infrastructure Partners
  • Construction Prime Team Members: Acciona Infrastructure Canada Inc., Green Infrastructure Partners
  • Design Prime Team Members: Hatch Ltd., Parsons Inc.

Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx are evaluating submissions, and the contract is expected to be awarded later in 2025. A fairness monitor is overseeing the entire procurement process.

The Yonge North Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 1 subway approximately eight kilometres north from Finch Station into Vaughan, Markham, and Richmond Hill.

The extension is one of the priority transit projects announced by the Province for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, including the Ontario Line, the Scarborough Subway Extension, the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, the Hazel McCallion Line Extensions and the Hamilton LRT.
