Topping off: West Lincoln Memorial Hospital
Reaching new heights by laying the final beam atop the external structure
On Thursday, November 23, West Lincoln Memorial Hospital reached new heights when Hamilton Health Sciences, the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation, Infrastructure Ontario, EllisDon and local trades people were joined by community stakeholders to celebrate the “topping off” of the new hospital with -a beam signing event.
A “topping off” ceremony is an age-old tradition on building sites in which the tallest and last beam of the structure is placed, signifying the structure has reached its maximum height. In keeping with the tradition, the final beam placed atop the hospital was adorned with signatures of stakeholders involved in the project. With the final beam in place, work will continue on remaining elements of construction, more specifically completing the interior of the project, as well as installing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
Hospital project even closer to serving more residents in the West Niagara communities and townships, while transforming the community landscape.
The final beam sits atop the new four storey, 192,135 square foot hospital, which will include:
- Acute inpatient beds
- A 24-hour Emergency Department
- Maternal and newborn services
- Day surgical services
- Increased outpatient (ambulatory care space to expand availability of consultation services closer to home
- Advanced diagnostics including x-ray, mammography, echocardiology and ultrasound, and CT scanner
IO takes immense pride in our involvement with this project, as we do with all our projects. Working with all our partners has enabled us to successfully complete more than 50 hospital projects across the province.
