Made in Ontario Process Recognized World-wide
TORONTO - Infrastructure Ontario (IO) has issued a request for qualifications on its 100th project using its unique Alternative Financing and Procurement (AFP) process.
The milestone marks almost 12 years of successfully procuring and delivering the Province's largest and most complex public infrastructure projects - including hospitals, courthouses, highways and public transit.
To date, 60 of these projects have reached substantial completion and are now in operation across the province. IO's approach to placing more risk of cost overruns and scheduling delays on the contractor - rather than the public - has yielded a 96% on-budget record.
Ontario is making the largest infrastructure investment in hospitals, schools, public transit, roads and bridges in the province's history.
Quick Facts:
- Infrastructure Ontario's AFP model transfers risks associated with design, construction and financing of the project to the private sector.
- As of May 31, 2017, IO had substantially completed 60 projects with a capital value of $19.5 billion.
- More than 50 foreign governments and international agencies have consulted with IO to draw upon its expertise and best practices.
- The 100th RFQ was issued for the Davenport Diamond project, which is part of a larger, system-wide plan to improve overall GO Transit service.
Quotes:
“Ontario's AFP program is an international success story. It is delivering key projects like hospitals and public transit systems so that people have access to the services they need in their communities to thrive and grow.”
Bob Chiarelli, Minister of Infrastructure
“IO's approach to modern project delivery is recognized around the world for its innovation and success. We look forward to delivering 100 more projects as the province continues its unprecedented commitment to modernizing Ontario's public transit, roads, hospitals and justice facilities.”
Ehren Cory, President and CEO, Infrastructure Ontario
